MTSS-A Counselor: Supporting Academic Growth and Achievement

The MTSS-A (Multi-Tiered System of Supports for Academics) Counselor helps students achieve academic success by identifying learning needs, monitoring progress, and connecting students with appropriate academic interventions and supports. The counselor works closely with teachers, students, and families to promote strong learning habits and academic confidence. The MTSS-A counselor supports students in the areas of:

• Academic goal setting and progress monitoring
• Study skills and organization strategies
• Intervention planning and support
• Data-based student success planning
• Collaboration with teachers and families
• Connecting students to academic resources
• Family and community resource referrals

MTSS-B Counselor: Supporting Student Behavior, Social-Emotional Wellness, and School Success

The MTSS-B (Multi-Tiered System of Supports for Behavior) Counselor helps students develop the skills they need to be successful in school and life. Services may include individual and small-group support, social-emotional learning, behavior intervention, conflict resolution, and strategies for managing emotions and stress. The MTSS-B counselor supports students in the areas of:

• Social-emotional learning and wellness
• Positive behavior support
• Conflict resolution and peer relationships
• Self-regulation and coping strategies
• Student check-ins and mentoring
• Family and community resource referrals

• 99% of 8th-grade students were promoted.
• 100% of eighth-grade students received one-on-one academic advising and completed an individual learning plan.
• 100% of academically at-risk students received a Tier 2 intervention (individual counseling, small group counseling, Check-In/Check-Out, Study Skills, tutoring services).
• 98% of students received a Healthy Minds lesson focusing on building better-coping skills.

• Khan Academy - Expert-created content and resources for every course and level. Always free. A nonprofit organization with the mission to provide a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere.

• Brain Fuse Tutoring- online education platform that provides live, remote tutoring, academic assistance, and career coaching. Students can use the services for free with a valid San Bernardino County library card.

• Quizlet - A better way to study with digital flashcards! Quizlet makes it simple to create your own digital flashcards, study those of a classmate, or search our archive of millions of flashcard decks from other students.
   
• ACT Test a college entrance exam that high school students take in order to get accepted into college. The test has four sections; English, mathematics, reading, and science. There is also an ACT writing test.

•  Cal State University This is the website for the 23 universities in the California State University (Cal State/CSU) system, i.e. Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State Los Angeles, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, etc.
• www.College.gov - This website provides a summary of the requirements for all types of colleges and offers many resources for picking a college. You can also check out CaliforniaColleges for information on colleges only in California
   
• CollegeAffordabilityGuide - This website provides info and advice on the many options students have to reduce the cost of their degree, and to offer a fresh analysis of which colleges are doing the most to make high-quality education affordable.
   
•  FAFSA  Free Application for Federal Student Aid - The FAFSA is an application that high school students fill out in order to receive financial help to go to college.

• PSAT 8/9 - The PSAT 8/9 is the first exam in the College Board's "SAT Suite of Assessments" and is offered to eighth and ninth graders. The purpose of the PSAT 8/9 is to establish a starting point in terms of college and career readiness as students transition to high school. • SAT - Scholastic Aptitude Test - The SAT is a college entrance exam that high school students have to take to get accepted into college. The test has three parts: reading, writing, and mathematics. There are also SAT subjects tests with test your knowledge in specific subjects, i.e. language arts, math, science, history, and foreign languages.
   
• University of California - This is the website for the 10 colleges in the University of California (UC) system -- UCLA, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UC Irvine, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, UC Merced, & UC San Francisco.
